Artissima
Saskia Neuman Gallery is thrilled to participate in this year's edition of Artissima, presenting a solo presentation of new paintings by Swedish artist Josef Jägnefält.
Josef Jägnefält's (b. 1984, Gothenburg, Sweden) practice is rooted in the history and tradition of painting. Suggestive faces of people and animals meet the transience of time in furniture and objects that distort our perception of what defines reality, and dreaming. Executed in delicate layers of oil and acrylic on panel and canvas, his works are characterized by soft pastel hues and muted natural tones, inviting quiet reflection on memory and the subtle boundary between reality and imagination.
The presentation at Artissima highlights Jägnefält's ongoing interest in the poetic potential of painting, where familiar interiors, animals, and anonymous figures become vessels for psychological narratives. Balancing between intimacy and ambiguity, the works invite viewers into spaces where time appears suspended and the familiar takes on a quietly enigmatic presence.
Jägnefält holds an MFA from Umeå School of Art, including an extended year at the University of the Arts Bremen, Germany (2016). Following his acclaimed first solo exhibition at Saskia Neuman Gallery in 2024, the presentation at Artissima introduces a new body of work that further develops his distinctive painterly language. His second solo exhibition at Saskia Neuman Gallery will open in January 2027.
